1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account or using AssignAI ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Description of Service

AssignAI is a web-based platform that allows teachers to create and distribute homework assignments, track student submissions, manage class attendance, log student behavior, and generate AI-powered reports. Some features require a paid Pro subscription.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to create a teacher account. By registering, you confirm that you are of legal age and have the authority to use the Service in the context of your educational institution.

4. Account Responsibilities

• You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.
• You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
• You must notify us immediately at support@assignai.net if you suspect unauthorized access.
• You may not share your account with others or create accounts on behalf of third parties without authorization.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws.
• Upload or transmit content that is harmful, offensive, or violates the rights of others.
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Service or its infrastructure.
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or otherwise attempt to extract the source code of the Service.
• Use automated tools to scrape, crawl, or extract data from the Service without written permission.
• Resell or sublicense access to the Service.

6. Student Data

Teachers are responsible for ensuring they have appropriate consent and authority to enter student information into the Service. AssignAI stores only the minimum data necessary: student names and, optionally, email addresses. Students do not create accounts and are not required to provide personal information beyond their name.

7. AI Features

AI-powered features (homework structuring, grading, and student reports) are available on the Pro plan. AI outputs are generated by Google Gemini and are provided for informational and assistive purposes only. AssignAI does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or suitability of AI-generated content. Teachers must review and verify all AI outputs before using or sharing them with students or others.

8. Intellectual Property

All content you create on AssignAI (homework, class data, submissions) remains yours. You grant AssignAI a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, process, and display your content solely to provide and improve the Service. AssignAI's software, design, and branding are the intellectual property of AssignAI and may not be copied or reused without permission.

9. Subscriptions & Auto-Renewal

Pro subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period (monthly or yearly) unless canceled before the renewal date via your dashboard. You authorize Paddle to charge your payment method on file for renewals. You will be notified of upcoming renewals and charges.

10. Service Availability

We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may perform maintenance, updates, or experience outages. We are not liable for any loss resulting from downtime.

11. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts for violations of these Terms, non-payment, or at our discretion. You may terminate your account at any time by contacting us at support@assignai.net. Upon termination, access to Pro features ends immediately, and data may be deleted after 30 days unless required by law.

12. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, AssignAI is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability to you shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

13. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms at any time. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the new Terms. We will notify users of material changes by email or via an in-app notice.

14. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of Singapore, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising out of or in connection with these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Singapore.

Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy

1. What We Collect

We collect only what is necessary to provide the Service:

• Teacher accounts: username, email address, hashed password, plan type, and account creation date.
• Student data: student names and optional email addresses, entered by teachers.
• Usage data: homework content, submissions, attendance records, behavior flags, and activity logs tied to teacher accounts.
• Technical data: IP addresses and browser information collected automatically for security and rate-limiting purposes.

2. How We Use Your Data

• To provide and improve the Service.
• To authenticate users and maintain account security.
• To process payments via Paddle (we do not store payment card details).
• To send transactional emails (account-related notifications only — no marketing without consent).
• To generate AI-powered features by sending relevant content to Google Gemini API.

3. Data Sharing

We do not sell your data. We share data only with the following third-party services required to operate AssignAI:

• Google Gemini API — for AI homework structuring, grading, and report generation (Pro plan only). Only the content you explicitly submit for AI processing is sent.
• Paddle — for payment processing. We share your email address to create a checkout session. Paddle's privacy policy applies to payment data.

4. Student Privacy

Students do not create accounts. Student data (names, submissions) is entered and controlled by teachers. We treat student data with the same care as teacher data and do not use it for any purpose other than providing the Service to the teacher who entered it.

We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 directly. If you believe a child's data has been entered without appropriate consent, contact us and we will remove it promptly.

5. Data Retention

Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all associated data (classes, students, homework, submissions) is permanently deleted within 30 days. You may request deletion at any time by emailing support@assignai.net.

6. Security

• Passwords are hashed using bcrypt and never stored in plain text.
• Authentication uses short-lived JWT tokens stored in httpOnly cookies.
• All data is transmitted over HTTPS.
• We apply rate limiting to prevent brute-force attacks.

7. Cookies

We use the following cookies:

• token — httpOnly authentication cookie, expires in 7 days.
• lang — stores your language preference.

We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. To exercise these rights, contact us at support@assignai.net. We will respond within 30 days.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via email or an in-app notice.

Refund Policy

Refund Policy

1. Pro Plan — Monthly

If you are on the monthly Pro plan and are not satisfied, you may request a full refund within 7 days of your initial purchase or most recent renewal. After 7 days, no refund is issued for the current billing period. Cancellation stops future charges immediately.

2. Pro Plan — Yearly

If you are on the yearly Pro plan, you may request a full refund within 14 days of purchase or renewal. After 14 days, prorated refunds for unused full months may be considered at our sole discretion (calculated from the date of request).

3. How to Request a Refund

Email us at support@assignai.net with:

• The email address associated with your account.
• Your purchase date or Paddle order number.
• A brief reason for the refund request.

Refunds are processed via Paddle to the original payment method and may take 5–10 business days depending on your bank or card issuer. We review requests case-by-case, considering usage (e.g., significant AI feature consumption may affect eligibility).

4. Non-Refundable Situations

• Accounts suspended or terminated due to a violation of our Terms of Service are not eligible for refunds.
• Partial months or periods of active use (especially heavy AI usage) are generally not refunded.
• Refunds outside stated windows or for discretionary reasons are at AssignAI's sole discretion and not guaranteed.

5. Cancellation

You can cancel your Pro subscription at any time from the Billing page in your dashboard. Cancellation takes effect immediately — your account reverts to the Free plan and you lose access to Pro features. No further charges will be made, but no prorated refund for the current period unless eligible under above terms.

6. Free Plan

The Free plan has no charges and therefore no refund policy applies.
